In another major success against illegal infiltration and unauthorized cross-border movement, Madhupur police station of Sepahijala district has arrested a Bangladeshi national and an Indian citizen from the Mayapur area of West Bengal for entering India illegally and later attempting to return to Bangladesh through the same clandestine route.
Police sources said that two arrested persons were produced before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court on Wednesday afternoon for further legal proceedings.
Police added that one Ashish Chandra Paul, a resident of Ghosh Para under Sadar South police station Station in Cumilla district of Bangladesh, allegedly entered India illegally through the Khowai border on July 18.
Later, with the intention of returning to Bangladesh, he reportedly contacted a local intermediary from Mayapur, who allegedly connected him with another alleged tout, identified as Babul Das, a resident of Konaban Chakbasta area of Tripura.
Police subsequently launched an investigation into the alleged illegal cross-border movement and arrested the two individuals.
