PoK witnesses massive protest over unjust taxes
A massive protest was witnessed in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK)'s Mirpur region on Friday over unjust taxes imposed on them, media reports said.
A protest was planned for Saturday (May 11) over the Pakistan-imposed taxes and rising prices, but the deployment of additional forces and arrests of 70 activists angered people, and they took to the streets on Friday itself, reported India Today news channel.
The protesters allegedly pelted stones at security forces and even clashed with them.
Amid protests, security forces had imposed Section 144 in the region.
According to ANI news agency report, personnel from the Front Corps, Rangers, and Quick Response Force (QRF) of Punjab Province are currently patrolling the road.
Political activist Amjad Ayub Mirza, speaking to ANI, condemned the incident, emphasising that violence against peaceful protesters in POK is intolerable.
