In a social media post, Trump demanded that Netflix fire Rice, though he did not specify what penalties the company might face if it failed to do so.

The remarks came after Rice, a former national security adviser and UN ambassador under President Barack Obama who also served in President Joe Biden’s White House, criticised what she described as corporate loyalty to Trump.

Speaking on a podcast, Rice said corporations, news organisations and law firms that “took a knee” to the president were now realising that such moves were unpopular.

“They’re going to be held accountable” if Democrats return to power, she said, adding, “If they think Democrats are going to play by the old rules, they’ve got another thing coming.”

Rice rejoined Netflix’s board in 2023 after leaving the Biden administration. The controversy comes as Netflix is reportedly engaged in a bidding battle involving Paramount Skydance Corp. and Warner Bros. Discovery.

While Trump did not clarify what action he might take against Netflix, he has previously attacked media networks over content he opposes.

In recent months, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr has also publicly warned broadcasters that their licences could face scrutiny.

Netflix did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Trump’s remarks.
