Adani Power's Jharkhand plant starts supply to Bangladesh

Godda (Jharkhand): Adani Power has commenced power exports to Bangladesh from its 1,600MW power plant located in Godda, Jharkhand, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

Adani Power Jharkhand Limited (APJL), a subsidiary of Adani Power Limited, has successfully achieved the commercial operations date (COD) for the second unit of its 2x800 MW Godda ultra-supercritical thermal power plant.

The second unit of the Godda power plant underwent a reliability run test, along with commercial operation tests, on June 25.

Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Power Grid Corporation of Bangladesh (PGCB) officials were present during the completion of these tests.

On April 6, the first unit of the power plant, with 800MW capacity, had achieved its COD.

The power supply from the Godda power plant to Bangladesh will bolster energy security in the neighboring country.

"APJL shall supply 1,496 MW net capacity power from 2x800 MW Godda USCTPP under the PPA with BPDB executed in November 2017 for a period of 25 years via 400 kV dedicated transmission system connected to Bangladesh grid," the statement said.

By replacing costly power generated from liquid fuel, the electricity supplied from the Godda plant will have a positive impact on Bangladesh's power situation, it said.

This transition is expected to help Bangladesh reduce its average cost of purchased power, resulting in greater cost efficiency.

"Godda power plant will serve as a symbol of friendship and herald a new phase in the multifarious and long-standing relations of India and Bangladesh," said Mr SB Khyalia, CEO, Adani Power Limited.

According to the statement, the commissioning of the Godda Ultra Supercritical Thermal Power Plant (USCTPP) is a noteworthy achievement for the Adani Group, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), and signifies the economic cooperation between both countries.

Adani Power (APL), which is a part of the diversified Adani Group, holds the distinction of being the largest private thermal power producer in India.

The company currently operates seven power plants in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, with a combined installed thermal power capacity of 15,210 MW. Additionally, they also possess a 40 MW solar power plant located in Gujarat.
