Congress to launch statewide movements against post-poll violence
Opposition Congress will launch mass movements of ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha’ and civil disobedience movement at Agartala on April 8th next in protest against alleged ‘erroneous’ conviction and disqualification of Rahul Gandhi.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan on Sunday afternoon after extended Pradesh Congress Committee meeting, the PCC president and MLA Birajit Sinha said that the party had detailed discussion over the continuous post-poll violence across the state after March 2nd assembly poll results and the extended PCC meeting has decided to organize statewide movements against violent politics of ruling BJP.
He said that the Pradesh Congress will also organize district wise demonstrations or ‘Satyagraha’ and civil disobedience movements in Agartala and Udaipur on April 20th and 23rd respectively against post-poll violence.
He said that soon after the announcement of poll results, the ruling BJP , which has managed to get a majority in the assembly with only 39% of vote share, has unleashed a reign of terror and violence across the state. Till date, thousands Congress workers were physically assaulted and their properties were ransacked or burnt into ashes.
“Our voices were suppressed inside the assembly by the treasury bench, but we are continuously urging the Chief Minister to take concrete steps to stop violence against opposition supporters, whereas the majority of people’s mandate of 61% vote share remained with opposition parties,”, said Sinha.
He added that Congress will strengthen their movement against violence politics of the ruling party and will also submit deputations before all district authorities during their movements.
