Apple just upgraded AirTag — And finding lost items is now way easier
Apple on Monday unveiled the new AirTag, a powerful accessory designed to help users keep track of and find the items that matter most using the Find My app. The updated AirTag features an expanded finding range, a louder built-in speaker, and improved Precision Finding capabilities.
Since its launch in 2021, AirTag has helped users around the world recover lost luggage, keys, bicycles, bags, and other valuables. Apple highlighted several real-world stories, including a musician who located a misplaced instrument in time to perform the same evening, and a traveller who recovered luggage containing life-saving medication.
Designed exclusively for tracking objects, AirTag continues to offer industry-leading privacy and security protections against unwanted tracking. The new AirTag is available at the same price as its predecessor — ₹3,790 for a single AirTag and ₹12,900 for a four-pack — with free personalised engraving available via apple.com and the Apple Store app.
Enhanced Range and Findability
The new AirTag is powered by Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, the same chip used in the iPhone 17 lineup, iPhone Air, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch Series 11. This makes locating items easier and more precise than ever before.
Using haptic, visual and audio cues, Precision Finding now guides users to their AirTag from up to 50 percent farther away than the previous generation. An upgraded Bluetooth chip further expands the range at which AirTag can be detected.
For the first time, users can also use Precision Finding on Apple Watch — available on Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later — bringing the powerful Find My experience directly to the wrist.
With an updated internal design, the new AirTag is 50 percent louder than the previous generation, allowing users to hear it from up to twice the distance. Combined with a distinctive new chime and enhanced Precision Finding, AirTag makes it easier to locate everyday items such as keys tucked between couch cushions or a wallet just before heading out.
Find My Network and Share Item Location
The Find My network enables users to locate AirTag, Apple devices and compatible third-party accessories, while maintaining strong privacy protections. If an AirTag is outside Bluetooth range of its paired iPhone, the crowdsourced Find My network of Apple devices can help determine its approximate location.
The new AirTag also integrates seamlessly with Share Item Location, an iOS feature that allows users to temporarily and securely share the location of a misplaced item with trusted third parties, such as airlines, to assist in recovering delayed or lost luggage.
Apple has partnered with more than 50 airlines worldwide to securely accept Share Item Location links. According to airline IT provider SITA, carriers using this feature have reported a 26 percent reduction in baggage delays and a 90 percent drop in unrecoverable or “truly lost” luggage.
Access to shared locations is limited to authorised personnel through secure Apple Account or partner authentication. Location sharing can be stopped at any time by the user, ends automatically once the item is recovered, and expires after seven days.
Pricing and Availability
The new AirTag is available to order today on apple.com and the Apple Store app, and will be available at Apple Store locations and Apple Authorised Resellers later this week.
AirTag is sold in one- and four-packs priced at ₹3,790 and ₹12,900, respectively. Customers can add free personalised engraving at checkout on apple.com and the Apple Store app.
The Apple-designed AirTag FineWoven Key Ring is available in fox orange, midnight purple, navy, moss and black, priced at ₹3,900.
The new AirTag requires a compatible iPhone running iOS 26 or later, or iPad with iPadOS 26 or later, an Apple Account, and iCloud sign-in. Certain features require Find My to be enabled. Precision Finding on Apple Watch requires watchOS 26.2.1 on Apple Watch Series 9 or later, or Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later.
