Kanpur/IBNS: Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco businessman K.K. Mishra was granted bail within hours of his arrest in connection with a car crash in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, media reports said.
Shivam was arrested on Thursday morning, four days after the accident that left six people injured.
According to reports, he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol while driving a luxury Lamborghini that first hit an autorickshaw before crashing into a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle.
The impact reportedly flung the motorbike rider nearly 10 feet into the air. The car then mounted the two-wheeler’s front wheel, dragged it for some distance, and eventually crashed into a pole before coming to a halt.
Eyewitnesses claimed Shivam Mishra attempted to flee the scene, but locals smashed the windows of the Lamborghini Revuelto and pulled him out of the vehicle.
His security personnel, who were travelling in a separate car, reached the spot but were unable to take him away. Police later intervened and brought the situation under control.
Despite a video circulating online showing Shivam being pulled out of the driver’s seat, his lawyer maintained that he was not driving the vehicle. Instead, the defence claimed that driver Mohan Lal was behind the wheel.
On Wednesday, Mohan appeared before a Kanpur court and stated that he was driving the car at the time of the accident. He alleged that he lost control of the vehicle after Shivam Mishra suffered a seizure moments before the crash.
Shivam’s parents also claimed that their son suffers from epilepsy.
However, the court rejected Mohan’s version and dismissed his surrender application.
Earlier, locals and some victims had alleged that police were “going soft” on Shivam Mishra due to his family’s influence.
