At India-Arab meet, PM Modi backs Palestinians and Gaza peace efforts
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reiterated India’s continued support for the Palestinian people and welcomed ongoing peace efforts in Gaza, including the peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump, during a meeting with foreign ministers from Arab nations in New Delhi.
The remarks were made during the second India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (IAFMM), attended by delegations from the League of Arab States.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Modi also conveyed India’s appreciation for the Arab League’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
“The Prime Minister reiterated India’s continued support for the people of Palestine and welcomed ongoing peace efforts, including the Gaza peace plan,” the PMO said.
Modi highlighted India’s deep-rooted historical and civilisational ties with the Arab world, noting that strong people-to-people connections have long served as the foundation of bilateral relations.
He outlined his vision for the future of the India-Arab partnership and reaffirmed India’s commitment to expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
In a post on social media platform X, Modi described the Arab world as an integral part of India’s wider neighbourhood and expressed confidence that enhanced collaboration in technology, energy, trade and innovation would elevate ties to new levels.

“I was delighted to receive the Foreign Ministers and the delegations of the League of Arab States today. We share deep civilisational bonds, vibrant people-to-people connections, strong fraternal ties, and a common commitment to peace, progress, and stability,” he wrote.
Modi’s comments on the Gaza peace plan came even as India is yet to take a decision on joining the proposed ‘Board of Peace’ initiative announced by President Trump. The initiative aims to address global conflicts, beginning with the Gaza crisis.
Trump’s invitation to Modi to join the board was earlier shared publicly by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor.
The ‘Board of Peace’ was unveiled as part of the second phase of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, signed in October 2025.
According to the proposal, the board would be chaired for life by Trump and initially focus on the Gaza conflict before expanding its mandate. Member states would serve three-year terms, with permanent membership reportedly available upon a $1 billion contribution.
