'Brazilian model voted as Seema, Sweety, Saraswati in Haryana': Rahul Gandhi drops 'H-bomb'
New Delhi/IBNS: Unleashing what he called his much-awaited “H-bomb,” Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Tuesday, alleged large-scale voter fraud during last year’s Haryana Assembly elections.
Gandhi claimed that 25 lakh votes were “stolen” in a state with roughly 2 crore registered voters — a figure he said translates to one in every eight votes being fake, or about 12.5 percent.
According to Gandhi, several Congress candidates had voiced concerns about discrepancies after the polls, saying that the results did not match on-ground sentiment or exit poll predictions, which had suggested a Congress victory.
Instead, the BJP emerged triumphant.
He also showed a video of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini reportedly saying that “arrangements” had been made for the BJP’s win, recorded two days after voting concluded.
“What were these arrangements? This was when every other party believed the Congress was sweeping the election,” Gandhi remarked.
Gandhi further claimed that the outcome of postal ballots was at complete variance with results from the polling booths — a first in Haryana’s history, he said.
“I am questioning the Election Commission and India’s democratic process with complete proof. There was a deliberate plan to turn Congress’s landslide victory into a defeat,” he asserted.
The Congress leader said his party lost eight constituencies by razor-thin margins, including one by just 32 votes — a cumulative difference of only 22,779 votes.
“To give you perspective, Congress lost the Haryana election by just 22,779 votes,” he noted.
In an attempt to demonstrate evidence of voter list manipulation, Gandhi presented examples from the electoral rolls.
One instance, he said, featured a woman’s photo — actually a stock image of Brazilian model Matheus Ferrero — appearing 22 times under different names such as “Sweety,” “Seema,” and “Saraswati.”
“She votes in 10 different booths in Haryana under multiple names. This clearly shows a centralised operation,” Gandhi claimed.
In another example, Gandhi pointed out that 100 voter IDs in a single constituency featured the same woman’s photograph.
“This lady could vote 100 times if she wished. This setup allows room for outsiders to come and vote,” he alleged.
He also displayed another woman’s image that appeared 223 times in two polling booth lists, accusing the Election Commission of destroying booth CCTV footage to hide evidence.
“The Election Commission can remove duplicates instantly, but it doesn’t. Why? Because it is helping the BJP,” Gandhi alleged, showing multiple voter IDs with identical photos but different names.
He also claimed that 3.5 lakh entries had been deleted from Haryana’s voter rolls in the lead-up to the election.
Responding to the charges, sources in the Election Commission questioned why Congress polling agents failed to raise objections on voting day if such discrepancies existed.
“Polling agents are empowered to challenge an elector’s identity if they believe someone has already voted or is impersonating another,” one source said.
The source further asked whether Gandhi supports the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process meant to eliminate duplicate entries and remove names of deceased or relocated voters.
They also questioned Gandhi’s assumption that all alleged fake voters supported the BJP.
“If Congress leader Pawan Khera’s name appears in voter lists of two states, does that mean he votes twice?” the source asked, adding that the Congress had not filed any objections during the SIR process in Bihar.
