Forensic student teams up with ex-boyfriend to kill live-in partner in Delhi; accused's plan to masquerade murder as blast fails
New Delhi/IBNS: The live-in partner of a 32-year-old UPSC aspirant, whose charred body was recovered from a flat in Delhi's Gandhi Vihar, has been arrested on murder charges after her seemingly meticulous plan to paint the crime as an accident fell flat, media report said.
What initially looked like a blast turned out to be a chilling murder incident.
Ramkesh Meena was allegedly killed by his live-in partner Amrita Chauhan, a 21-year-old forensic science student, who took the help of her former boyfriend and LPG distributor Sumit Kashyap and their friend Sandeep Kumar.
All three are from Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad.
Ramkesh was living on the fourth floor of the apartment in Gandhi Vihar.
On October 6, police received information about an AC blast in the flat. Following this, fire tenders were pumped in to douse the fire.
After the flames were doused, a charred body was discovered from the flat.
Ramkesh was initially assumed to have died of the blast but the CCTV footage and the pattern of his burns raised doubts.
Amrita, who is fascinated by crime web series, and Sumit used their knowledge in forensic science and gas mechanics respectively to execute the murder in a way that it seems Ramkesh died of blast.
But the CCTV footage showed two masked men followed by a woman- later identified as Amrita- leaving the flat.
A blast occurred soon after the three left the apartment.
On the basis of forensic findings, it became clear Ramkesh was murdered.
The mobile locations and call records further emboldened the suspicion on the involvement of the trio.
Amrita moved in with Ramkesh in May but their relationship soured when the former discovered that her partner had secretly recorded her private moments and also refused to delete them.
When Amrita confided in Sumit, the latter roped in Sandeep and planned the crime.
"The accused along with her former lover reached the apartment and strangulated the victim. Then they poured ghee, oil and alcohol on the victim's body. Then with the help of another accomplice, they opened the valve of the gas cylinder to trigger the blast," said DCP (North) Raja Banthia as quoted by India Today.
Amrita, who was arrested on October 18, admitted that she along with Sumit and Sandeep strangulated Ramkesh, assaulted him before setting him on fire.
After police recovered a hard disc, trolley bag, Ramkesh's shirt and two mobile phones, Sumit was arrested on October 21 and Sandeep on October 23.
Like Amrita, Sumit and Sandeep too admitted their involvement in the murder.
