Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has conceded defeat in the Assembly election, accepting the people’s verdict after a dramatic and closely watched contest in the state that saw a major political shift.
In a post on X, Stalin acknowledged the outcome and congratulated the winning side.
“We bow to and accept the verdict of the people. Congratulations to the victors!” he said.
The message marked a formal acceptance of defeat by the DMK leader after a tense election battle across Tamil Nadu.
TVK delivers breakthrough victory
The election saw a landmark result with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerging victorious, marking its first major electoral breakthrough and reshaping Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
The party’s performance, led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, has been described as a “blockbuster verdict”, ending the dominance of established Dravidian political forces and ushering in a new political force in the state.
Stalin defends DMK government’s record
While conceding defeat, Stalin strongly defended his government’s performance over the past five years, highlighting welfare schemes, infrastructure development and governance reforms implemented during his tenure.
“In the past five years, we have created numerous projects and provided good governance to the people of Tamil Nadu. We have elevated Tamil Nadu in every way,” he said.
He added that the DMK had sought votes purely on the basis of its achievements.
“In the electoral arena, we sought votes only by speaking of our achievements,” Stalin said.
Major political shift in Tamil Nadu
The results mark one of the most significant political realignments in recent years, with TVK’s rise disrupting the traditional DMK-AIADMK dominance in Tamil Nadu politics.
The verdict is being seen as a generational shift in voter sentiment, particularly among younger voters who backed the new political alternative.
Calm acceptance after high-voltage contest
Despite the electoral setback, Stalin’s message emphasised democratic acceptance and continuity of public service, signalling a peaceful transition of power after a high-voltage campaign.
With TVK set to take charge, Tamil Nadu now enters a new political chapter defined by the emergence of a new party and a changing electoral landscape.
