Bangladesh: Eight Hindu idols vandalised in three temples
At least three idols were vandalised in two Hindu temples in the Mymensingh region of Bangladesh on Thursday amid the growing atrocities on the community members in the Muslim-majority nation ever since former PM Sheikh Hasina-led government collapsed on August 5, media reports said.
Out of the three vandalised idols, two were damaged at Bonderpara Temple in Shakuai union on Wednesday, Haluaghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abul Khayer, quoting locals and temple sources, told The Daily Star.
No case has been registered in connection with the attacks so far.
No one has been arrested.
Another idol was vandalised at Polashkanda Kali Temple in Beeldora union of Bangladesh, a nation witnessing a massive political turmoil since the July-August protests against the former Hasina-led government which eventually resulted in her collapse.
Suvash Chandra Sarker, president of the temple committee, filed a case against unknown persons, reported The Daily Star.
According to reports, a man named Alal Uddin, 27, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Five idols were vandalised at Jharbari Shashan Kali Temple in Dinajpur, media reports said.
"We've never seen such an act here," Janardan Roy, president of the temple committee, told The Daily Star.
