Iranian banking system hit by major cyber attack: Reports
Tel Aviv/IBNS: A massive cyber attack targeted the Central Bank of Iran and other Iranian banks on Wednesday (Aug 14) amid ongoing tension in the Middle East, according to a report in the Saudi-affiliated Iran International.
The cyber attack, which is reportedly to be one of the largest hacks in the Islamic Republic's history, reportedly caused major disruptions to the Iranian banking system.
The report by the London-based anti-regime outlet said the attack was prominently highlighted in Hebrew media.
"The Iranian regime has been trying to cover up the attack for several hours," Iran International's Israel correspondent Babak Itzhaki was quoted as saying by Israel's Channel 12.
Itzhaki claimed hackers have obtained bank details and credit card details of millions of Iranians.
Highlighting that there is no official response from the Iranian government to the report yet, the journalist told Channel 12 that he was anticipating a denial by the regime.
